Getting dearer

Biggest price rises since 29 Sept

A rise can be a price increase, or the cheapest retailer selling out so the next cheapest is now the best price.

How it works

Where the history comes from

We check each retailer’s product listings through the day. When a price or stock level changes, we store the change with the time we saw it. Nothing is estimated or filled in between checks.

For each product, the line is the cheapest price at any retailer that has it in stock. If a checked listing goes quiet for more than a few hours we treat its stock as unknown, so stale prices don’t count as the best price.

Our tracking started on 29 Sept 2026, so the history is short. Prices before then aren’t shown anywhere on the site.

Reading the numbers

A drop isn’t always a sale

  • Price cut: a retailer lowered its price.
  • Back in stock: a cheaper retailer restocked, so the best price fell without anyone cutting it.
  • Sold out: the cheapest retailer ran out, so the best price jumped to the next one. Shown as a rise.
  • Bundles: some retailers sell the same product with different extras. We match each listing to one product, so check the listing before you buy.

For value rather than price, see the price per watt leaderboard.

Price tracking: questions

When did you start tracking plug-in solar prices?

On 29 Sept 2026. We have no history from before then, so “lowest tracked” means the lowest since 29 Sept 2026, not the lowest ever. We check each retailer's listings several times a day and store a record only when the price or stock changes.

How often do plug-in solar prices change?

We have recorded 86 price changes across 270 listings since 29 Sept 2026. Since 29 Sept, 3 compliant kits got cheaper and 0 got dearer.

What price does the tracker show?

The cheapest price at any retailer we track that has the product in stock (in stock or low stock). If the cheapest retailer sells out, the line jumps to the next cheapest, so a rise can mean stock ran out rather than a price going up. Shaded parts of the chart are times when nobody we track had it in stock.

Which plug-in solar product has dropped most in price?

APsystems EZ1-M Microinverter (800VA): down £20 (14%) since 29 Sept, to £119.99 at Maplin.

Can I get an alert when a price drops?

Not from this page. Each product page has its own history chart, and our in-stock alerts tell you when a kit comes back in stock.
