MPAN
Meter Point Administration Number: the unique reference for your home's electricity supply point.
An MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number) identifies the point where your home connects to the electricity network. It stays with the property, not with you or your supplier, and it is usually printed on your electricity bill.
For plug-in solar, the MPAN is how your kit gets linked to your home when you notify your DNO. DESNZ described the registration process as a short online form in which “the system would use the address information to pull the relevant MPAN”, before you pick your device from a list drawn from the ENA Type Test Register (impact assessment, para 25). So you may not need to type it in, but it helps to have a bill to hand in case the address lookup fails.
Homes paid for exported electricity can also have a separate export MPAN. For example, Octopus requires DNO approval of the export MPAN for its Smart Export Guarantee tariff (Octopus). Most plug-in kits don’t qualify for SEG, so most households won’t need one.
